Theophilactos Papakonstantinou (Monastiri, 1905 – Athens, 31 March 1991) was a Greek columnist, social analyst and historian.
Studies and journalistic career
He studied literature, philosophy, history and pedagogicals at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens. Charmed already by his student years from the vision of a perfect society, he studied the great experiment of Communism as few. He was expelled from the University in 1927 for his communist beliefs, which prevented him from following the academic career he desired. Conceiving in time the weaknesses of communism, T.F.P. experienced the shocking denial of his expectations. Since then he has become the first critic of Marxism, writing many related articles, analyses, and books.
He was editor and editor-in-chief of the "Great Greek Encyclopedia" (1928-1934), editor of the newspaper "Independent" (1934-1936), editor and editor-in-chief of "Morning" (1936-1943), collaborator of the newspaper "Forth" (1954-1957), the newspaper "Macedonia" (1958–199), editor-in-chief and columnist of "Freedom" (1945–1949), columnist of (1949–1963), columnist of "Middle" (1963–1967) and "Acropolis" (1972–1985). In addition, he was an associate of E.I.P. (1950-1953 and 1959-1964).
He participated in journalistic missions at the Balkan Conference in Belgrade (1940), England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg (1952) and East and West Germany.
In journalism he offered a new type of article, architected, with reasonable argumentation and doric style, testifying excellent possession of language and the vitality of purgatory, consciousness of responsibility and effort to support truth at any cost. Resistance action and work before and during World War II
During the dictatorship of August 4th (Metalxa) he founded along with others the M.E.O. (Secret National Organization) which acted resistancely with the circulation of pamphlets, notices etc. until the eve of World War II. During his tenure, he served as a war correspondent for the newspaper "Morning" and crossed the entire front from the north to its southern tip, sending significant responses and a series of daily telegrams. During the hostile occupation, he participated in the resistance newspaper "Fighting Greece" (August 1942-October 1943), which was an auxiliary instrument of the resistance organization "Homeros", where he wrote the main articles and most of its other texts, in order to stimulate the moral & information of the Greek people as well as undermine his moral enemy. The aforementioned newspaper was transmitted to the Free Greek Government and the Middle East Headquarters.
