Early Life and Career
Thomas Jens Uwe Doll was born on 9 April 1966 in Malchin, East Germany. He began playing football at a young age with BSG Lok Malchin.
Sports Career
Doll started his professional career as a striker for Hansa Rostock in the GDR upper league until 1986. After the relegation of Hansa Rostock, he continued to play for various clubs throughout his career.
### International Career
Doll played for both East and Unified Germany national teams, earning 29 caps with East Germany and 18 with Unified Germany. His last international appearance was in 1993.
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing football in 2001, Doll began his coaching career as a member of the technical staff at Hamburg German club. He later became the head coach of Hamburg in 2004, leading the team to save relegation in his first season and winning the Intertoto Cup. Under his leadership, the team finished third in the 2005-06 season, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
In 2007, Doll took over as head coach of Borussia Dortmund German club but resigned in May 2008. He then moved to Gençlerbirliği Turkish club on a two-year contract in June 2009. However, he ended his contract by mutual agreement after eight games, with the team losing half of them and finishing 13th in the local league.
Later Career
Doll has also coached Al-Hilal Saudi Club and APOEL FC of the First Division of Cyprus. He is considered one of the most famous German coaches, known for his ability to develop teams under his leadership.
