Vouno
================Vouno (; Greek: Βουνό) is a village located in the Kyrenia District of Cyprus. It is situated on the southern slopes of the Pentadaktylos mountain range, approximately two and a half kilometers from the castle of Buffavento and fifteen kilometers southeast of the city of Kyrenia.
History
------------Prior to 1974, Vouno was inhabited exclusively by Greek Cypriots. However, after the Turkish invasion in 1974, the village came under de facto control of Northern Cyprus. In 1975, it was renamed Taşkent by the Turkish Cypriots, in honor of the village of origin of the Turkish Cypriots who were resettled there.
Geography
-------------Vouno is located at an altitude of 380 meters above sea level, making it the highest village on the southern slope of the Pentadaktylos mountain range. The village has a population of 299 inhabitants (as of 2011).
Administrative Status
------------------------De jure, Vouno belongs to the district of Kyrenia within the Republic of Cyprus. However, de facto it is under the control of Northern Cyprus and is part of the Girne District.
