"Tile giants"
--- CONTENT ---
Giant tiles are a Greek dish also known as giant beans in the oven
Etymology
The name "giants" is of Greek origin, hence the "beef giants". Giant plaques are meze vegetarian consisting of large dried beans (traditionally known as "giant beans", a variety of Phaseolus coccinous) cooked in tomato sauce.
Cooking methods
The dish is made from dry white beans ( giant beans), tomatoes, onions, olive oil, parsley and sugar. When giant beans cannot be found, they can be replaced by large beans as their suitable substitutes. Other vegetables such as garlic, carrots, zucchini and celery or celery are sometimes used and some provincial recipes add sausages or smoked village sausage cut into small cubes.
The beans are soaking (usually from evenings) and then boiled until softened, so the other ingredients are strained and added. The aromatics are sautéed to become sauce and mixed with beans. Then, the beans are baked in the oven until the top layer takes a light brown color. The dish is served either hot or at room temperature.
Serving methods
It is particularly popular during autumn and winter months. Giants are usually served as a main dish with feta, olives and bread or at room temperature as part of the meze.
