An innovative and multifaceted artist, master with Giorgione of tonalism, Tiziano Vecellio was one of the few Italian painters who owned a real company, a short entrepreneur of the workshop as well as his personal production, directly in contact with the powerful of the time, his major clients. The renewal of the painting he was author of was based, as an alternative to the michelangiolesco "Price of Design", on the personal use of color. The agreement between the different color zones (tonality of warm and cold colors) and the wise use of light give unity to the represented scenes. Genius and protagonist of the painting of the Renaissance in the entire European continent, Tiziano, in Renaissance painting, introduced an artistic revolution made of innovations, which exceeded the michelangioleschi patterns of the Tuscan School. In fact, the latter primed the use of the design, Tiziano on the contrary perfected the tonal painting, where by now the design was exceeded, painting the shapes and contours through the color, taking care of the details in detail. In his maturity he was able to give the brushstrokes also quick and pasty touches, even to paint directly with his fingers, spreading the color. He also proved himself the most skilled portraitist of his time, able to immortalize in portraits the character and emotions of his subjects. A brilliant and complete painter, he was able to experiment in an extraordinary way on all the fields of painting, from allegorical themes, to profane, religious, mythological and portraiture. For all these innovations, he became the most appreciated and requested Renaissance painter in Europe, in fact he worked as well as for the Serenissima, for various courts of Italy and Europe, as well as for the popes, becoming the richest painter ever. For his pictorial revolution and his genius was considered by historians and art critics one of the best and complete painters of all time, if not the best, affecting many artists such as Diego Velázquez and Impressionists Claude Monet and Édouard Manet, demonstrating, with his techniques, in advance of more than 200 years. On his death he left his art to the artists Tintoretto and Veronese, who continued the international tradition of Venetian painting.

Tiziano used the expressive force of the material color and then, entering the full maturity, abandoned the balanced spatiality, the solar character and the splendor of the color of the Renaissance, assuming the dynamism proper to the manierism and playing freely in the color variations in which the color was rendered "more ductile, more sensitive to the effects of light".
