Tobias Adami

Biography

Tobias Emmanuel Adami was born on August 30, 1581, in Werda, Vogtland. He was the son of Prussian official Matthäus Adami and Eva Walter.

Adami suffered a childhood accident that damaged the joints of his jaw, which obstructed his locutory abilities throughout his life.

Education

Adami completed his school studies in Werda and Zwickau. At the age of 16, he enrolled at the University of Leipzig, where he studied philosophy with Professor H. Pursius as part of the "cursus philosophicus". He also began studying medicine with Professor Balthasar Giller, but soon moved to Tübingen to study law.

Adami finished his studies in the winter between 1599 and 1600 and returned home.

Career

In 1604, Adami was hired by Daniel Watzdorf as his preceptor. That same year, he returned to the University of Leipzig with his student. He worked as a preceptor for Rudolf von B until at least 1616.

Later Life and Death

Adami was a member of the Fruit-bringing Society. He died on November 29, 1643, in Weimar.
