Tomasz Mendrek
Tomasz Mendrek (born August 9, 1968) is a former Czech badminton player and coach.
Sports Career
Mendrek began his badminton career at a young age, winning his first national junior title in the ČSSR in 1985. He repeated this triple success in 1986, also winning his first adult title alongside Miroslav Šrámek that year. In 1988, he won the Czech Championships in both mixed and men's doubles.
Mendrek continued to achieve success throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. He won his first title in men's solo in 1989, a victory that would remain unbeaten until 1997 at the championships in men's solo. He also recorded international successes at the open championships of Malta, Cyprus, the ČSFR, and at the Werner-Seelenbinder commemorative tournament in the GDR.
In 1991, Mendrek was third in the final classification of the European Badminton Circuit. He represented Czechoslovakia in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics. In addition to his individual successes, Mendrek also won two titles in men's singles in 1992: the Malta International and the Czechoslovakian International.
Coaching Career
After retiring from competition, Mendrek went on to become a coach. He served as the national junior coach of the Austrian national team from 2000 to 2005. In 2007, he also took on the role of junior coach for the Czech Republic national team.
Achievements
Mendrek is a 7-time national champion in men's doubles, having won his first title with Miroslav Šrámek in 1986. He also holds three consecutive national men's singles titles from 1990 to 1992.
