"Tonis Melas"

Tonis Melas was a remarkable writer and intellectual from Cyprus. He was born in May 1913 in Mazoto, Larnaca and died on Christmas Day 1961. As a child, his family settled in Limassol. He was self-taught and the high school diploma won it at night. He published the first collection of poems "Contemplations and Questions" in 1937. He published nineteen in total works of poetry, theatre and proza. Among them, "The National Hymn of Cyprus" and shortly before the death of "Tafoperes". His works were well spread throughout Cyprus after he zealously distributed them. Archbishop Makarios III was a supporter of his works. He won an award from the Greek radio station program Moscow. His works are in the library of the parliament of the Greeks, Benakeio library and the library of the American Congress. New Estia magazine, October 1, 1955, issue 678, contains his poem " Earthquake in Cyprus". He left jokes another thirty-one works ready for publication. Three of them were written in Cyprus 'locala'. His last published work "Tafoperes" contains the following list of published works and list of works ready for publication.
