Early Life and Education

Toula Limnaios was born in 1963 in Athens, Greece. Her family emigrated to Belgium when she was a child, where she attended school in French in Brussels.

Limnaios began her dance training at the age of 12 with Nicole Hanot, studying classical dance for several years. She later took courses in modern dance, Alexander technique, and Laban movement analysis, particularly at the EDF, asbl under the Catholic University of Leuven.

Career

After completing her education, Limnaios worked as an interpreter with various choreographers, including Claudio Bernardo and Régine Chopinot. She also assisted Pierre Droulers in his work.

In 1996, Limnaios continued her training at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, where she became a member of the Folkwang dance studio under the artistic direction of Pina Bausch. During this time, she worked with choreographers such as Rainer Behr, Stefan Brinkmann, and Raffaela Giordano.

Limnaios also collaborated with musicians Conny Bauer and Peter Kowald on improvisation shows. In 1996, she co-founded the company cie. toula limnaios with composer Ralf R. Ollertz.

Company and Performances

The cie. toula limnaios has been based at Halle Tanzbühne Berlin since 2003. Under Limnaios' direction, the company has toured extensively throughout Europe, performing in countries such as Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, and others.
