It is historically part of the Transport Wing and is currently attached to 64 Transport Wing. The history of Transport Squadron Vercors goes back to propeller time. It is composed of three squadrons whose creation dates back to World War I: SAL 8, SPA bi55 and SPA bi2. Each of them was illustrated in the conflicts in which France took part and contributed to the legendary reputation of aircraft such as SPAD XI, Potez 25, C47 Dakota and the North 2501.
The Vercors holds the custody of the traditions and heritage of the units of which he is the heir and since 1999 the personnel of the squadron carry the forage of the military medal with olive from the theatres of external operations.
History
The squadron we know today actually has a very great history. Indeed, the traditions of his squadrons are more than centuries old; SAL 8 and SPA Bi 2 were formed in 1912 followed by SPA Bi 55 in 1915. Specializing in observation, reconnaissance and bombing missions, they are often rewarded for the results and bravery of their pilots.
At the end of the First World War, they joined the Aviation Regiment of Observation in Rabat, Morocco. They participated in operations during the Rif War and then joined other groups, always remaining in the Maghreb. It was in 1937 that the name 1/62 appeared when the squadrons were regrouped within Bombardement Wing.
After the war, Bombardement Groups were reorganized and transformed into Transport Groups. Thus, GT 1/62 Algeria takes over the traditions of GB 1/62 and settles in White House. In 1949, Transport Wing was dissolved, Algeria remained the only unit to wear the mechanical code . Finally, in 1963, the group became the 01.062 "Vercors" and took over its historic insignia with the cross of Lorraine and the leaping juniper. Then in 1986, the Vercors was dissolved during the withdrawal of the North 2501.
For his awakening, on September 28, 1993, the Transport Squadron Léger "Vercors" resumed his mechanical number 01.062. With Casa 235-100 he joined Creil Air Base and in 1996 became Transport Squadron 1/62. He was transferred to Evreux in 2016, within the transport squadron where he was allowed to retain his name because of his glorious past. Today, squadron members are proud to continue these traditions. The rich history of 01.062 continues thanks to its great contribution to Operation Barkhane and its influence on the Overseas territories.
In 1993, the Squadron was equipped with the first CASA CN-235 of the
