Tripimenes
Trypimeni
================Trypimeni (Greek: Τρυπημένη, Turkish: Tirmen) is a small village in the Famagusta District of Cyprus, located 12 kilometers north of Marathovounos on the southern side of the Kyrenia mountain range.
History
------------The village was inhabited exclusively by Greek Cypriots before 1974. After the Turkish invasion of 1974, the village is not controlled by the Republic of Cyprus and de facto under the control of Northern Cyprus.
Geography
-------------Trypimeni is situated in the district of Famagusta Province in Cyprus. It is located on the southern side of the Kyrenia mountain range, and ten kilometers northwest of Lefkoniko/Geçitkale.
Population
--------------According to the Ottoman census of 1831, Christians (Greek Cypriots) were the only inhabitants of the village. Throughout the British period, the village was inhabited exclusively by Greek Cypriots. Its population has steadily increased from 285 in 1891 to 197 inhabitants in 2011.
Name
--------The name Trypimeni comes from tripios, which in Greek means "good". The alternative Turkish Cypriot name Tirmen has been used since the Ottoman period. However, the meaning and origins of Tirmen are unknown; it could be a short form of Trypimeni.
