Turkish Education Association (TED)
History
The Turkish Education Association, commonly referred to as TED, is a non-governmental organization established in Ankara in 1928 with the aim of contributing to the education of private individuals and organizations in the newly formed Republic of Turkey.
### Founding
The association was founded on the call for contribution to education by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the founder and first president of modern Turkey. In his speech at the opening of the Grand National Assembly on November 1, 1925, Mustafa Kemal emphasized the need for special initiative work in education. This vision led to the establishment of TED.
### Early Years
The association was initially known as the "Turkish Maarif Society" and had Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha as its first general head. In 1946, the organization changed its name to the Turkish Education Association and has since been operating under this title. As of 2023, TED Ankara College is one of the educational institutions established by the association.
Mission
The mission of the Turkish Education Association is to play an active role in promoting education and modernization. The association aims to protect and develop civilization-value through a progressive vision.
Publications
TED publishes a magazine called "Actual" (Turkish: Gerçek), which serves as a platform for disseminating knowledge and ideas related to education and modernization.
Status
The Turkish Education Association was granted public benefit status by the Council of Ministers on December 12, 1939.
