Turkish General Committee of Cyprus
The Turkish General Committee of Cyprus was a temporary administration established by the Turkish Cypriots on the island of Cyprus from 21 December 1963 until the establishment of the Turkish Provisional Administration of Cyprus on 27 December 1967.
History
Following the events that occurred on 21 December 1963, known as the Holy Christmas, the Turkish General Committee was established as a separate administration due to the withdrawal of Turks from the political structure of the Republic of Cyprus. This decision was made in coordination with the Turkish Resistance Organization (Türk Mukavemet Teşkilatı), which took on legislative and executive responsibilities on behalf of the Turkish Cypriots.
Leadership
The leader of the Cyprus Party, Fazıl Küçük, served as President of Parliament during this period, while Rauf Denktaş acted as Vice President.
Establishment and Dissolution
The Turkish General Committee was established on 21 December 1963 and functioned until its dissolution with the proclamation of the Turkish Provisional Administration of Cyprus on 27 December 1967.
