This article provides information on the group stage of the UEFA Conference League 2021/2022.

32 clubs participate in the group stage: 12 start with it, 10 winners of the playoff round, 4 losers in the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League (non-champion qualification) and 6 losers in the playoff round of the Europa League. The clubs are divided into 8 groups of 4 teams each.

The winners of the groups reach the 1/8 finals; the teams that took second place - in the 1/16 finals, where they will be joined by 8 third teams following the results of the group stage of the Europa League.

Geography of the tournament

In the group stage of the UEFA Conference League 2021/22, the national leagues of the following countries are represented:
Netherlands 3.
Denmark, Israel, Cyprus and the Czech Republic – 2 each.
Austria, Azerbaijan, England, Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Italy, Kazakhstan, Norway, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine — 1 each.

The draw
The teams were seeded into four baskets based on their position in the UEFA coefficients ranking at the end of the 2020/2021 season. The draw was held on August 27, 2021.

Format

Classification criteria
Teams take places in groups according to the number of points scored (3 points for victory, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a defeat). If points are equal, the following classification criteria shall apply:
Points scored in personal meetings between teams;
Difference of goals scored and missed in personal meetings between teams;
Number of goals scored in personal meetings between teams;
If more than two teams have an equal number of points, and after applying all the above criteria for face-to-face confrontation, the position of the teams relative to each other is still unclear, all of the above criteria for face-to-face confrontation are repeated exclusively for this subset of teams.
Difference of goals scored and missed in all group matches;
Number of goals scored in all group matches;
Balls scored on the road in all group matches;
The number of victories in all group matches;
Number of away wins in all group matches;
Disciplinary indicators (direct red card = 3 points; double yellow card = 3 points; single yellow card = 1 point);
UEFA club coefficients
Note: Due to the repeal of the away goal rule, away goals are no longer counted as a criterion starting this season. However, the total of goals scored on the road is still taken into account as (paragraph 7) of the classification criteria.
