UEFA Euro 1988 Qualification

The qualification for the 1988 European Football Championship, also known as Euro 1988, was held in 1986 and 1987. The tournament was hosted by West Germany, which automatically qualified as the host nation.

Qualifying Format

A total of 32 national teams participated in the qualifying rounds, divided into seven groups. Each group consisted of either four or five teams. The two-point rule applied, with two points awarded for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a defeat.

Group Stage

The group stage was played from 1986 to 1987. The winners of each group automatically qualified for the final tournament.
