UEFA Euro 2012 bids
UEFA Euro 2012 Bidding Process
In 2005, the UEFA Executive Committee narrowed down the candidates for hosting the 2012 European Football Championship to three: Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, and Ukraine. The voting process was as follows: Italy received 11 votes, while Croatia and Hungary each secured nine votes, with Poland and Ukraine receiving seven votes each.
The bidding process involved two phases. In the first phase, five countries submitted their applications to host the championship. However, Turkey and Greece were subsequently dismissed from the competition due to low vote counts of six and two respectively. The second phase saw the three remaining candidates submit detailed dossiers on their bids, which was completed by May 31st, 2006.
Following this, UEFA conducted inspections in the candidate countries, with a decision to postpone the designation initially planned for December 2006 being made shortly after. Ultimately, it was Poland and Ukraine that secured eight votes each from the executive committee, moving them forward in the process.
The fate of Europe's World Series was ultimately decided by twelve people: Michel Plushing (France), Gerhard MaererForfler (Germany), Senses Erzac (Turkey), Pertahely Omil (Norway), Angel Maria Willek (Spain), Jeffrey Thompson (England), Matthew Spengeberg (Netherlands), Marios (Portugal), and others. Despite only four members of the executive committee supporting Italy, Ukraine and Poland received eight votes each from twelve, securing their places as hosts.
Cities Proposed by Poland and Ukraine
Poland proposed several cities to host the championship, including Warsaw, Gdańsk, Poznań, and Wrocław. Meanwhile, Ukraine also put forward a range of cities, including Kiev, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Lviv.
