This article contains information about the group stage of the UEFA Europa League 2011/12.

48 clubs participate in the group stage: 38 teams that have passed qualification and 10 losers of the fourth qualifying round of the Champions League (five from the championship and five from non-champion qualification). The clubs are divided into 12 groups of 4 teams each. The teams that took the first two places in the group are in the playoffs.

The draw
The Europa League group stage draw was held on August 26, 2011 in Monaco. Before the draw, 48 teams were split into 4 baskets according to their odds at the end of the 2010/11 season. As a result of the draw, 12 groups of 4 teams were formed - 1 team from each basket. According to the rules of the draw, teams from one country could not be divided into one group. Moreover, all groups were divided into 4 parts: groups A-C (so-called "red" groups), groups D-F ("green" groups), groups G-I ("blue" groups), groups J-L ("yellow" groups), matches in which will be held on different days and / or at different times. Teams from countries with more than one representative in the group stage could not be divided into groups of the same color.

* A week after the draw, 2 September, Sion was expelled from the group stage after UEFA accepted Celtic's protest against the results of the playoff round with Sion due to doubts about the legality of the participation of a number of players, the Scottish club took the vacated place in Group I.

Geography of the group stage
In the group stage of the UEFA Europa League 2011/12, the national leagues of the following countries are represented:
England - 4 teams,
Austria, Belgium, Israel, Netherlands, Romania, Ukraine – 3 each
Germany, Greece, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Russia, France - 2 each,
Ireland, Cyprus, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Switzerland, Sweden, Scotland - 1 each.
