Overview

The 2017/18 UEFA Europa League group stage was a part of the 2017–18 UEFA Europa League, which was the 47th season of Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA. A total of 48 clubs participated in the group stage.

Qualification and Seeding

48 clubs qualified for the group stage: 16 teams that started with it, 22 winners of the playoff round, and 10 losers from the Champions League playoff round (five from the championship and five from non-champion qualification). The teams were divided into four baskets based on their position in the UEFA coefficients ranking at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Geography of the Tournament

The national leagues of the following countries were represented in the group stage:

* Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Czech Republic – 3 each
* Austria, England, Israel, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Switzerland - 2 each
* Albania, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, North Macedonia, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Croatia, Sweden — 1 each

Draw and Groups

The teams were seeded into four baskets based on their position in the UEFA coefficients ranking at the end of the 2016/17 season. The draw took place on August 25, 2017, at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

There were 12 groups of 4 teams each. The teams that finished first and second in each group advanced to the knockout phase.

Group Stage Format

The group stage consisted of a round-robin format, where each team played the other teams in their group once. The top two teams from each group qualified for the knockout phase.
