UNI-Europe is a European trade union federation of service trade unions based in Brussels. It was formed in 2000 from the merger of four predecessor associations and represents over 7 million members in 272 trade unions in 50 countries. The 4th UNI-Europe Congress took place in Rome in 2016.
The association is part of the Global Trade Union Federation UNI Global Union and a member of the European Trade Union Confederation.
The most important task is to provide services for the member unions and their members through contacts with and lobbying at the EU Commission and also by requesting trade union concerns and campaigns to members of the European Parliament.
Geographical division
‘Europe’ is broad in the classification of countries as UNI Europe and covers the following areas:
I: Great Britain and Ireland
II: Scandinavian States
III: Southern Europe: Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Cyprus,
IV: Benelux, France, Monaco
V: Germany, Austria, Switzerland
VI: Central, South East Europe and Baltic States: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Hungary,
VII: Eastern Europe: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus
VIII: Middle East: Bahrain, Israel, Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine
Member trade unions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Member organisations shall be:
from Germany: Unified Service Union (ver.di),
from Austria: the trade union GPA, the trade union of postal and telecommunications officials (GPF) and the trade union vida,
from Switzerland: Syndicom.
Organisation
The President of UNI Europe is Peter Hellberg and the Secretary of UNI Europe is Oliver Roethig.
