Adoption and Background

Resolution 430 of the United Nations Security Council was adopted on June 16, 1978.

Content

The resolution referred to a report by the Secretary-General stating that due to current circumstances, the presence of a UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus would remain necessary for achieving a peaceful settlement. The Council expressed its concern about actions that could lead to escalating tensions and requested the Secretary-General to submit another report before November 30, 1978, to follow up on the implementation of the resolution.

Reaffirmation of Previous Resolutions

The Council reaffirmed its previous resolutions, including Resolution 365 (1974), and expressed its concern about the situation, urging the parties involved to work together for peace. It extended the mandate of the force in Cyprus, as specified in Resolution 186 (1964), until December 15, 1978.

Voting

The resolution was adopted by a vote of 14 in favor. China did not participate in the voting.
