United States Women's National Soccer Team

Overview

The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team is the female football representative of the United States of America and is governed by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). The team competes in international competitions under the auspices of FIFA.

History

### Establishment

The creation of women's football teams in colleges across the United States was stimulated by Title IX, which prohibited gender discrimination in federally funded educational programs. Enacted in 1972, this legislation paved the way for the growth of women's football internationally. The U.S. Soccer Association entrusted CT Mik to oversee the development of women's football in the country.

### Early Years

In the 1980s, the American Football Federation appointed coach Mike Ryan to select a team of college players to participate in the 1985 Mundialito tournament in Italy. This marked one of the earliest international competitions for the U.S. Women's National Team.

The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team has achieved numerous international accolades, including:
