Ugly duck (known internationally as Patty's World in their respective translations) is an Argentine musical telenovela produced by Ideas del Sur, Pol-ka and Televisa, for the children's-youth audience and nominated for the Emmy Awards. Since its debut on April 10, 2007 in Argentina (Canal 13), it has been broadcast mainly by Disney Channel between 2007 and 2011 in more than 50 countries in Latin America, Europe and Asia, presenting a global success. Patito ugly influenced popular culture and has been consecrated as "one of the great hits of Disney Channel," by breaking record audience after its premiere, and being acclaimed as a pioneer in the opening and triumph of the telenovela genre on the channel, getting Latin American production to overcome for the first time the company's classic American productions during its broadcast, challenging cultural and language barriers.
The series starred Laura Esquivel and Brenda Asnicar, followed by Juan Darthés, Griselda Siciliani and Gloria Carrá, who led the adult cast.
Patito feo has managed to position his discography as number one of the international sales lists with Patito feto: The prettiest story (2007), Patito feto at the Teatro (2007), La vida is a party (2008) and the live album Patito feto: The most beautiful musical (2010), being the most sold soundtrack of the year in countries such as Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia, among others.
From 2007 to 2011, Laura Esquivel and Brenda Asnicar managed to show up to more than two million viewers around the world for four musical tours. After performing numerous functions at the Gran Rex Theatre in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and being a high school music curtain at the Antonio Vespcio Liberti Stadium, the actresses visited the countries of Europe and Latin America, presenting themselves in venues commemorated by their historical prestige, highlighting the National Auditorium of Mexico City, the Verona Arena in Italy, the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain or the Olympic Sports Complex of Faliro in Athens, Greece, among other stages, in which functions were repeated up to three days in a row. Due to the high demand from the public, the respective solo tours of the protagonists were announced, in addition to presenting the musical show in 200 film rooms such as Il Mondo di Patty: La Festa al Cinema, reaffirming itself by criticism as a real phenomenon.
Among its greatest recognition and certifications, Patito feo stands out as the greatest revelation of the television and musical panorama of the time, being nominated as Best Children and Youth Program at the Emmy Awards, obtaining eleven platinum records with the same album, and receiving the largest number of awards such as Best Children's album, Best Sold album of the year, Best Sold DVD of the year and Ringtone of the year best sold at the Carlos Gardel Awards,
