United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, ECE (UNECE) was established in 1947 to promote economic cooperation among its Member States. It is one of the five regional commissions under the administrative direction of United Nations headquarters. It has 56 Member States, and reports to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). In addition to European countries, it includes the US. United States, Canada, Israel, Turkey and the Central Asian republics. The headquarters of the UNECE secretariat is located in Geneva and has a budget of $50 million.
Member States
The 56 member states are:
Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Northern Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.
Note: 15 of the 56 UNECE member states are recipients of Official Development Assistance.
Committee on Ground Transport
The UNECE Transport Division has provided secretariat services to the Global Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29). In addition, the Transport Innovation and Vehicle Regulations Section acts as the secretariat of the Administrative Committee for Labour Coordination, and of the Administrative / Executive Committees of the three Vehicle Agreements administered by the Global Forum.
The CMR Convention on the International Carriage of Goods by Road was the result of a working group of this committee.
