**Adoption**

Resolution 201 was unanimously adopted by the United Nations Security Council on March 19, 1965.

**Background and Context**

The resolution reaffirmed previous resolutions on the Cyprus issue (resolutions 186, 187, 192, and 198) and took into account the views of the Secretary-General on the matter. The Republic of Cyprus had expressed a desire to extend the stay of the UN Peacekeepers beyond March 26, 1965.

**Content**

The resolution extended the period of stay of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus for another three months until June 26, 1965. It called on all sides of the conflict to exercise maximum restraint and cooperate with the UN peacekeeping forces deployed on the island.
