Background
Resolution 266 of the United Nations Security Council was adopted unanimously on June 10, 1969.
Content
The resolution reaffirmed previous resolutions on the Cyprus issue and noted recent encouraging developments. The Council extended the stationing in Cyprus of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for a further period, ending on December 25, 1969.
Mandate Extension
Taking into account the views of the Secretary-General on the matter, as well as the wishes expressed by the Republic of Cyprus to extend the stay of the UN Peacekeepers in Cyprus, the resolution extended the stay in Cyprus of the UN Peacekeepers for an additional period ending on December 25, 1969.
Call for Restraint
The resolution calls upon all sides of the conflict to exercise maximum restraint and to make targeted efforts to achieve the Security Council's objectives.
