United Nations Security Council Resolution 364
**UN Security Council Resolution 364**
=====================================
**Adopted:** December 13, 1974
**Resolution:**
The UN Security Council took note of the reports from the Secretary-General and the Government of Cyprus regarding the prevailing conditions on the island, as well as General Assembly resolution 3212 and previous resolutions.
The Council then extended the stationing of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus for a further period of six months, until June 15, 1975. The resolution expected sufficient progress towards a final solution by that time, at least partial withdrawal. It again urged all parties to the conflict to provide their full cooperation with the force.
**Voting:**
The resolution was adopted by 14 votes. China did not participate in the voting.
**Background and Context:**
Resolution 364 is part of the ongoing efforts to resolve the Cyprus dispute, which has its roots in the division of the island between Greek and Turkish Cypriots after the independence from British colonial rule in 1960. The resolution was adopted during a period of heightened tensions on the island, following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in July 1974.
