### Background
The resolution noted a report by the Secretary-General that, due to existing circumstances, the presence of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus would continue to be essential for a peaceful solution. The Council expressed its concern at actions that could escalate tensions in the region.
### Implementation
The Council reaffirmed its previous resolutions, including Resolution 365 (1974), which expressed concern over the situation and urged parties involved to work together for peace. It also extended the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus until June 15, 1978, as specified in Resolution 186 (1964).
### Request for Follow-up Report
The Council requested the Secretary-General to submit another report before May 31, 1978, to follow up on the implementation of the resolution and assess the progress towards a peaceful settlement.
