United Nations Security Council Resolution 697
Adoption and Content
United Nations Security Council resolution 697, adopted unanimously on June 14, 1991, noted a report by the Secretary-General that due to existing circumstances, the presence of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) would continue to be essential for achieving a peaceful settlement.
Mandate Extension
The Council asked the Secretary-General to submit another report before November 30, 1991, to follow up on the implementation of the resolution. The Council reaffirmed its previous resolutions, including Resolution 365 (1974), which expressed concern over the situation and urged the parties involved to work together for peace.
Mandate Renewal
The mandate of the UNFICYP was extended again until December 15, 1991, as specified in Resolution 186 (1964).
