The U.S. Department of State (DOS) is a U.S. Cabinet Department responsible for U.S. foreign policy. Its main purpose is to advise the President on international relations, the management of diplomatic missions, negotiate international treaties and represent the United States at the United Nations. It also manages immigration services such as visas, passports and verification of US citizenship.

It is the most powerful and prestigious department in the United States. The Secretary of State is the first person of the Cabinet in the presidential succession line and serves as a representative of the Statuintian government abroad. This role is currently held by Antony Blinken.

In principle it is a dicastery with functions similar to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Description

Functions
At the head of the department is the secretary of state, a minister who sits in the government cabinet, with the task of exercising the functions:

To assist and coordinate the structure of US foreign policy
Protecting the interests and stabilization of American citizens in the East
To deal with the collection, preservation and analysis of data and information at national and international level on behalf of American Justice (such as drug trafficking and terrorism)
Protection of US interests at international level
Keep, safeguard and authorize the use of the United States Coat of Arms
