XXX Summer Universiade

The XXX Summer Universiade was a world student and youth sports competition that took place from July 3 to 14, 2019, in Naples, Italy.

History of Bidding Process

The bidding process for the 2019 edition began after the exclusion of Brasilia from hosting the 2017 edition. On June 14, 2012, Brazilian Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo and Confederação Brasileira do Desporto Universitário president Luciano Cabral announced that they would candidate Brasilia to host the XXX Universiade.

However, on December 11, 2012, Azerbaijan's Minister for Sport and Youth Azad Rəhimov announced plans to run Baku for the 2019 Universiade. The Azerbaijani capital had been chosen a few days earlier to host the first edition of the European Games.

On January 31, 2013, Miklós Tóth, vice-president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, declared that Hungary intended to host the 2019 edition of the Universiade or the next one. This was followed by Hungary's application to host the Summer Universiade 2019 or 2021.

Candidate Cities

On April 3, 2013, FISU announced three candidate cities:

* Baku: Azerbaijan's capital city, which had no previous experience hosting a Universiade.
* Brasilia: The Brazilian capital, which hosted the Summer Universiade in 1963 (in Porto Alegre).
* Budapest: Hungary's capital city.

Host City Selection

The host city was chosen on March 5, 2016, following the resignation of Brasilia. Naples, Italy, was selected as the host city for the XXX Summer Universiade.
