The Polytechnic University of Cartagena or UPCT is a public university located in the Spanish city of Cartagena (Murcia Region), with schools of a technological and business nature. It has been in existence officially since 3 August 1998.

History
The Polytechnic University of Cartagena is the youngest technical university in Spain, although several of its schools were founded at the end of and early in the year, since the School of Capataces of Mines and Driving Machinists (now the University School of Engineering of Caminos, Canales and Ports and of Engineering of Mines) part of the Royal Decree of 4 September 1883, and the College of Industry (now the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering) of the Royal Decree of 17 August 1901.

The University of Murcia created the Polytechnic University School of Cartagena in 1975, with the aim of integrating the University Schools of Mining Technical Engineering and the School of Industrial Technical Engineering into it and being able to add in the new center other studies.

In 1998, the Cartagena Polytechnic University was created with the schools and faculties that the University of Murcia had at the Cartagena Campus.

The UPCT is part of the UP4 association with the Polytechnics of Madrid, Catalonia and Valencia.
