"University of Bologna"
--- CONTENT ---
The University of Bologna (Italian: Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, UNIBO) is the oldest in-service university in the world and the second largest university in Italy.
It was probably the first university established in the western world. The University of Bologna referred to sources of modernity of the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Frederick I Barbarossa, that it was founded in 1158. During the 19th century, however, a committee of historians led by Joseph Carducci (Carducci) estimated the establishment of the university earlier, in 1088, a date that undoubtedly makes it the longest university in the western world. The University of Bologna has been particularly distinguished in the areas of teaching of Normal and Civil Law and is currently one of the most important universities in Europe.
