Anton Edouardovich Vaino (born February 17, 1972, Tallinn, Estonian SSR, USSR) is a Russian statesman. Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation since August 12, 2016. Member of the State Council of the Russian Federation since December 21, 2020.

Permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation since August 12, 2016. Actual State Advisor of the Russian Federation 1st Class (2008).

Biography

Origin
Anton Vaino was born on February 17, 1972 in Tallinn, Estonian SSR, USSR.

He comes from a family of Soviet party and Russian economic workers. Anton’s great-grandfather, Heinrich (Heinrich) Vaino, a leading worker of the Tomsk Regional Party Committee, was an active participant in the struggle for the establishment of Soviet power in Siberia. In particular, he took part in the suppression of the uprising of the Czechoslovak Corps, as well as in the suppression of the anti-Soviet peasant uprising in the Tomsk province. Heinrich's son, Karl Heinrichovich Vaino (1923-2022) was a leading party worker: in 1978-1988 he served as First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Estonia. Anton’s father, Eduard Karlovich Vaino (born 1949), Chairman of the Business Council of Cuba-Russia in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, from 1990 to 1997 – the main representative of OAO AVTOVAZ in the United States; from 2009 to 2020 – Vice-President for external relations and interaction with shareholders of OAO AVTOVAZ. Mother Tatiana Galinskaya, in the first marriage Vaino, in the second – Yezhevskaya.

The family moved to Moscow when Anton was 5 years old.

In 1996 he graduated from the Faculty of International Relations of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

Public service
From 1996 to 2001 he worked at the Russian Embassy in Japan (Tokyo).

From 2001 to 2003 he worked as an employee of the Second Department of Asia of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

From 2003 to 2004 he worked in the Office of Protocol of the President of the Russian Federation. He held positions of consultant, adviser, deputy head of department.

From 2004 to 2007 - Deputy Head of the Protocol and Organizational Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation. On October 4, 2004, he was awarded a class rank – a full state adviser of the Russian Federation of the 2nd class.

From April 26 to October 8, 2007 - First Deputy Chief of Protocol of the President of the Russian Federation.

From October 8, 2007 to April 25, 2008 - Deputy Head of the Government Office of the Russian Federation Viktor Zubkov. On January 22, 2008, he was awarded the highest class rank - the full state adviser of the Russian Federation 1st class.

On April 25, 2008 he was appointed Chief of Protocol of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation – Deputy Head of the Government Office of the Russian Federation.

From December 27, 2011 to May 21, 2012 — Minister of the Russian Federation — Chief of Staff of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Since May 22, 2012 – Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia
