Olga Yurievna Vasilieva () is a Russian politician, religious scholar. Doctor of Historical Sciences (1998), Professor (2005), Academician of RAO (2021). President of the Russian Academy of Education since June 30, 2021.

Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation from August 19, 2016 to May 8, 2018 (acting from May 8 to 18, 2018). Minister of Education of the Russian Federation from May 18, 2018 to January 15, 2020 (acting from January 15 to January 21, 2020).

The first woman is the Minister of Education in the history of Russia. Head of the Department of State-Confessional Relations of IGSU RANEPA (since 2002), Honorary Professor of the Moscow State Humanitarian and Economic University. Actual State Advisor of the Russian Federation 2nd Class (2014).

Biography

Early years and scientific work
Born January 13, 1960 in the city of Bugulma Tatar ASSR.

Graduated from high school at the age of 15, in 1979 graduated from the conductor and choral department of the Moscow State Institute of Culture. From 1979 to 1982 she worked as a singing teacher in schools No. 578 and No. 91 of Moscow. In 1982, she entered the evening department of the historical faculty of the Moscow State Correspondence Pedagogical Institute, worked as a history teacher in high school in Moscow school No. 91.

In 1987, she graduated from the Institute and began postgraduate studies at the Institute of History of the USSR (now the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences).

In 1990, at the Institute of History of the USSR under the scientific guidance of Georgy Kumaneva defended her thesis for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences on the topic “The Soviet State and the Patriotic Activity of the Russian Orthodox Church during the Great Patriotic War” (specialty – “History of the USSR”). Official opponents are Doctor of Historical Sciences Yu.P. Sharapov, Candidate of Historical Sciences V.G. Ovchinnikov. The leading organization is the Moscow State Institute of Culture. This work was the first work in Russian historiography dedicated to the history of the Russian Orthodox Church and state-church relations in the XX century.

In 1998 she defended her thesis for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences on the topic “The Russian Orthodox Church in the politics of the Soviet state in 1943-1948” (specialty – “Domestic History”).

In 1991-2002, she worked at the Center for the History of Religion and Church of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences as a junior researcher, researcher, leading researcher, head of the Center for the History of Religion and Church. In March 2022, she again headed the Center for the History of Religion and Church in the IRI RAS.

In 2002, she headed the Department of State-Confessional Relations of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation. Since 2003 - teacher of the Sreten Theological Seminary.

In 2007, she graduated from the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry with a degree in International Relations.
