Vazanata

Vazanata is a common fig herb cultivation Ficus carica one ifera, that is, of autumn figs, of figs with epidermis reddish brown background and on light green irregular stain color. Very cultivated on the island of Cyprus since ancient times. In North America they are able to be cultivated in USDA Hardiness Zones 7 to 10.
Synonymia
"Melazana" in Italy and Greece,
"Texas Blue Giant Fig" in Texas.
History
The cultivation of the fig tree in Cyprus occupies 220 hectares of commercial plantations, reaching a yield of 2,700 tons. There are also numerous trees scattered in small family gardens and patios throughout the country.
Most of the production is for local consumption, and the prices obtained are very
high especially for early production and for varieties with large fruits. Small quantities are mainly exported to the United Kingdom.
The 'Vazanata' figs were already listed by Symenoides (1930) as a variety that grows anywhere on the island of Cyprus.
Mostly consumed in fresh, but in the district of Paphos it is marketed as dry fig, known locally as "maxiles."
Characteristics
The 'Vazanata' fig trees are of common one-iferous fig type whose leaves are dark-green, mostly 5 lobes and a constant and rapid growth, and it gives figs in the second year.
The fruits that are very large in size have a pear shape, not symmetrical. Long-sized pedunculo. With a reddish brown background epidermis and on a light green irregular stain, with lentilelas, little thick cracks around the ostiolo area.
It gives figs once a year and the harvest time is from August to September. This fig tree doesn't need pollination. They are of good quality in both fresh and dry.
Culture
In Cyprus it is widely cultivated in private gardens and gardens..
In the United States it is grown in desert areas, and especially around San Antonio in Texas.
