Vesturland region

Vesturland () is one of eight regions of Iceland. Its capital is Borgarnes, while Akranes is the city with the largest population.
Geography
The Vesturland region is located in the western part of the country. It has an area of approximately 9,554 square kilometres, which in terms of extension is comparable to Cyprus.
The region is located in the northern part of Faxafloi Bay, where the Höfuðborgarsvæði region, which houses the capital Reikiavik. It also limits to the south and south-east with Suðurnes, to the north-east with Norðurland Vestra and to the north with Vestfirðir.
The main geographical accident of its coastline over the Atlantic Ocean, very close to the Arctic, is the Snæfellsnes peninsula, known as' Iceland in miniature ', as it houses several volcanoes and glaciers characteristic of the island, such as the Snæfellsjökull.
It has the waterfalls of Barnafoss, Glymur and Hraunfossar. On its shores are the Fjords of Borgarfjörður, Breiðafjörður and Grundarfjörður. In turn, its territory houses the glaciers of Eiríksjökull, Langjökull and Snæfellsjökull.
Population
The population is about 15,601 and the population density is 1.51 residents per square kilometre, one of the highest in the country.
