Overview
Veyselli is a neighborhood located within the Erdemli district of Mersin Province, Turkey.
History
The village was founded approximately 150 years ago by Veysel, a Yörük (once nomadic Turkmen) chief. The first migration movement from the original village took place in 1938, with residents establishing Yeniyurt as a neighboring village. In 1965, another group of villagers migrated to the east, and after the Cyprus War, many residents moved to the city, forming the Veyselli neighborhood.
Archaeological Significance
The surrounding area is rich in historical artifacts from the Roman and Byzantine periods. However, many of these relics have been lost due to theft and looting over time. The remaining sites include ruins of a church, tombs, curbs, relief pictures, water fountains, and castle remains.
Geography and Climate
Veyselli is situated in the Toros Mountains at an elevation of 840 meters above sea level. The village has a hilly terrain with a messy settlement pattern.
Economy
The main economic activities in Veyselli are farming and animal breeding. The primary products include tomatoes, apples, peaches, and cereals.
