Philippe Villa (born December 25, 1965, France) is a French guitarist who performs mainly music of the XIX-XX centuries, a public figure.
Career
He was educated by Betho Davezac at the Conservatory of Medon, then studied at the Higher School of Music in Saarbrücken (Germany) (where he received the “Concert Diploma” with higher honors), as well as in Prague with Jiří Jirmala and in Spain with José Thomas. He teaches at the National School of Music in Nior, France. Winner of the Gold Medal of the International Festival of Young Performers in Bordeaux (1991) and the Gold Medal of Paris, winner of the competition of the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation (1992). He won the highest awards at the Emilio Puhol International Guitar Competition, the Niccolo Paganini International Competition and international competitions in Milan and Taranto (Italy).
Concerted in many countries of the world: in Europe (Austria, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Switzerland), Asia (Cyprus, Turkey, Thailand) and the USA. He regularly performs at European festivals such as the Debrecen and Esztergom Festivals in Hungary, the Vienna International Guitar Forum (Austria), Guitar Days in Liechtenstein and the Milan Guitar Ateneum (Italy). He was the first guitarist to record works by Napoleon Costa on the instrument Lacôte Guitar and Hector Berlioz on the guitar Grobert. He also performs on historical (authentic) instruments.
He is the organizer of the International Guitar Festivals on the French island of Re, located near the west coast of France in the Bay of Biscay, which are held every two years in the first week of July. He has repeatedly been a member of the jury of various international competitions. In October 2002, he was invited as a guest of honor and jury member to the 6th International Festival and Competition “Guitar in Russia” in Voronezh, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Francisco Tarrega.
Highly appreciated as a teacher, he was invited to prestigious academies: Chopin in Warsaw, Voronezh Academy of Music, Krakow Academy, Moscow Institutes of Music, Columbia University (New York).
Currently, the musician gives concerts on the Coffe-Goguette guitar of 1835 and on the guitar of the Sicilian master Giuseppe Guallardo, plays exclusively on the strings of Savarez.
