Villefranche-sur-Mer is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in north-eastern France. Its inhabitants are called the Villefranchois, as in most communes bearing the name, and li Vilafranquié in Nice.

Villefranche-sur-Mer is located on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco, on the Mediterranean Sea.
### Separation from neighboring municipalities
The town is separated from Nice by Mount Boron, Mount Alban, and Mount Vinaigrier. It is distant from about 10 km from Monaco.

Villefranche-sur-Mer is a member of the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur.
Geology and Relief
The area of the commune, located on the Parc de la Grande Corniche, has an area of approximately 1.79 km². Its altitude varies between 0 and 100 meters above sea level.
### Harbour
The Villefranche harbour offers a safe anchorage, sheltered from the winds of the east. The average depth of the harbor is 17 meters, with a maximum depth of 95 meters at its entrance. The harbor extends wide to about a marine mile for the underwater gorge of Villafranca, a meadow of more than 500 hectares.
