Viola Calligaris

Viola Monica Calligaris (* 17 March 1996 in Sarnen) is a Swiss football player. She plays for Paris Saint-Germain and the Swiss national team. She also holds Italian citizenship.
Career
Clubs
Viola Calligaris started playing football at the age of eight at FC Giswil in Obwalden. In March 2009 she moved to FC Sachseln, in September 2009 followed the change to SC Kriens. FC Emmenbrücke enabled her from August 2011 the training with the boy team U-15 coca cola league. She became a regular short time later. From July 2012 she played for the NLA women’s team of SC Kriens. From 2013 to 2017 she worked for the NLA team of the BSC Young Boys Bern.
For the 2017/18 season, she moved to Atlético Madrid for two years. She won the championship title twice with the club during this time. Calligaris also experienced the historic world record match between Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona in front of 60'739 spectators in the Estadio Metropolitano, but only from the substitute bench.
After two championship titles and two cup finals with Atlético, Calligaris signed a one-year contract with an option of extension at Valencia Feminino FC.
After a season at Valencia FC, she moved within the city to UD Levante Feminino, where Calligaris signed a two-year contract. In September 2020, she broke her wrist during an international match with Switzerland. In December of the same year, she suffered a cruciate ligament tear, which forced her to take a nine-month break.
From the season 2023/24 she will play for Paris Saint-Germain. She signed a contract until 2025.
National team
With the U-17 Nati she was able to participate in the UEFA U17 European Championships in 2012 and scored a total of nine goals in the six games.
She also joined the U-19 national team and scored three goals in nine games.
In March 2016, the Obwaldnerin made her debut in the Swiss Women’s A-National Team. In the World Cup qualifying match against Belarus, she scored her first goal on 24 November 2017. Four days later in Biel she contributed her part to the victory (5:1) against Albania with the 4:1. In June 2018, she shot in the 6. Match of the World Cup qualification again against Belarus their 3rd goal for the Swiss national team.
Calligaris took part in the European Championship 2022 and was in all three group games in the starting formation of the Swiss women. Switzerland left after the preliminary round. She also participated in the World Cup 2023. Due to muscular problems, however, she only came to two partial inserts. Switzerland was eliminated in the final of eight.
