Visa waiver
--- CONTENT ---
Visa exemption is an untechnical term and refers to the exemption from visa requirements or visa requirements.
Definitions
In a broader sense, visa exemption includes the right of persons to enter a foreign country without a visa acquired before travel. This right is a considerable relief for the persons concerned, as they do not have to go through a (often lengthy) visa procedure before the intended trip.
Visa exemption in the strict sense is the right to enter a country without any formal entry permit. In this case, even during the entry control, no toll-free or required permits will be entered, stamped or glued on the passport or certificates will be handed over. This procedure is applied, among other things, by the Schengen states.
Visa exemption is often used synonymously with the exemption from the requirement of a residence permit. In the Schengen states, these exemptions are essentially identical. Other states allow certain people visa-free entry, but then require registration by the foreigners or obtaining a residence permit after entry.
Basic principles
Whether or not nationals of other countries are subject to visa requirements is determined solely by the law of the country of entry. The decision as to who is admitted to a state under what conditions is subject to the full decision-making power of the individual states and is a core area of their sovereignty. The reasons that lead to the abolition of the visa requirement are usually complex and are determined, among other things, by
relations at the state level (politically, economically and militarily allied, neutral, in competition or even hostile / in a state of war)
economic considerations (if major investors are attracted by visa exemption, tourism is an important source of income, if there are solvent potential tourists in the respective country, high visa fees are a source of income)
immigration policy considerations (how high is the proportion of visa-free travelers who will try to go underground or make a request for protection (ASYL) after entry, there is an unrestricted readmission of the country of origin for its citizens, how high is the forgery of the travel documents, how high is the level of corruption)
security considerations (the granting of visa exemption will significantly increase the entry of criminals/terrorists from the relevant state).
Reciprocity
As a rule, visa exemptions are agreed intergovernmentally by means of an international agreement (so-called visa agreements) and are based on the principle of reciprocity. The denunciation of such an agreement by one
