Viszlát nyár (for Goodbye Summer or Goodbye Summer) is a song by the Hungarian metalcore/post-hardcore band AWS and the official contribution of Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The song was already released on October 21st of 2017 via EDGE Records as a download. The text comes from the pen of the singer Örs Siklósi, while the music was worked out by the other musicians of the band.

The road to the Eurovision Song Contest

National preliminary decision

On December 6, 2017, AWS was confirmed as a participant in the national preliminary decision. The group rose in the second round of the competition on 27. January 2018 and reached the semi-finals of the music competition through the jury voting. On 17 February, the group took part in the semi-final, in which they reached the final again by jury decision.

The final was played on February 24. AWS won with Viszlát nyár the competition, in which the spectators were allowed to vote.

Eurovision Song Contest

The band participated with their contribution to the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on the 10th. May 2018 was held, part. Germany, France and Italy were entitled to vote alongside the participants in the second semi-final. Hungary qualified with their contribution as one of the ten best participants of the second semi-final for the final on 12th. May 2018. At the subsequent launch draw, it was announced that AWS will present their contribution in the second half of the final. After the final, the results of the two semi-finals were published. Viszlát nyár prevailed just before the Romanian participant The Humans and finished tenth. Both contributions separated only four points.

In the final, Hungary started at position 21. The song performed poorly on the jury. Only the committees from Azerbaijan, Greece, Cyprus, Israel, Poland, Czech Republic and Lithuania received the Hungarian contribution points, with Azerbaijan being the only one to award the highest rating with 8 points. The audience received the piece a little better: The highest score of 12 points was awarded by Serbia to the Hungarians. Romania and Finland awarded 10 and 8 points respectively. Seven points were awarded to Hungarians from Poland, five from Bulgaria. Viewers from Austria, Estonia, Slovenia and Montenegro awarded three points each, while Hungary received two points from Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Moldova and Belarus. Ukraine considered Viszlát nyár with one point. In the end, 93 points were booked, which meant number 21.
