Early Life and Education
Vladimir Sergeevich Lisin was born on May 7, 1956, in Ivanovo, Ivanovo region, RSFSR, USSR.
Lisin graduated from school No. 41 in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo region, in 1973. He began his career in 1975 as an electric mechanic in the Yuzhkuzbassugol association. In 1979, he graduated from the Siberian Metallurgical Institute in Novokuznetsk with a degree in metallurgical engineering.
Career
Lisin's early career involved working at various organizations, including Tulachermet, where he made his way up the ranks. He obtained his first job in 1975 as a mechanic in a Soviet coal mine and, after studying at the Siberian Metallurgic Institute, he worked as a welderman at Tulachermet Metals Works.
Lisin continued to advance in his career, becoming director of section and deputy chief engineer by 1986. He furthered his education with postgraduate studies in UKRNIIMET by correspondence (Kharkov, Ukraine) in 1984. In 1989, he obtained a Master's Degree in Metal Engineering at the Central Institute of Iron Metallurgy Research, IP Bardin (Moscow). Additionally, in 1990, he received a Diploma from the Higher Commercial School under the All-Union Academy for Foreign Trade of the Order of Popular Friendship, completing a training program on "Administration and management of joint venture activities in the territory of the USSR" (Moscow).
Business Career
Lisin's main assets include the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Combine, First Freight Company, First Port Company, and Volga Shipping Company. He is considered one of Russia's richest businessmen, with a fortune estimated at $22.1 billion in 2022 according to Forbes magazine.
In 2022, Lisin was ranked as the third-richest businessman in Russia, behind Melnichenko and Potanin. His net worth decreased by $7.8 billion over the year, but he remained one of the country's wealthiest individuals.
