Vodice (Shibenic-Known brimstone)

Vodice () is a city in Croatia, in Northern Dalmatia, on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Big tourist center.

General information
Vodice received his name thanks to the numerous springs in the vicinity. The town is located 12 km northwest of the capital of Shibenysko-Khaninski, the city of Sibenik. The old town is on the peninsula itself, while the new, modern city is located on the narrow polo along the seaside, where the beaches alternate. The Adriatic Road passes through Vodice.

Near Vodice are located the natural park Vransko Lake and the national park Kirka.

History
It is known that the city dates back to at least Roman times when it is known as Arausa. His current name has been mentioned since 1402. In 1412 he fell under Venetian authority. In Vodice there are still remains of the fortress facilities erected to protect against Ottoman attacks during the Venetian-Turkish Wars of 1570

After the fall of Venice in 1797 Vodice passed under Austrian rule and between 1806 and 1813 was annexed by Napoleon's France. From the end of 1813 to 1918 it was again owned by Austria. Between 1918 and 1945 it was annexed from Italy, from 1945 to 1991 it is part of Yugoslavia, and from its disintegration to today it is within Croatia's borders.

Population
According to the 2001 census, the population of Vodice had 6116 people and the entire municipality had 9047 people, of which 94.79 per cent were Croats.
