Wafaa Tarnowska

Wafa Tarnowaska is a Lebanese writer, translator, and storyteller of Polish nationality who divides her life between Europe and the Middle East. She considers herself a bridge between East and West, and opened a window to the Arab world by rewriting eight stories from One Thousand and One Nights.

Wafa lived and worked in Australia, India, Cyprus, Poland, Dubai, and currently resides and works in the United Kingdom.

Her stories from One Thousand and One Nights have been translated into Arabic, French, Korean, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish. Wafa translates plays from Arabic to English, as well as translating television documentaries. Her translated plays, including one in Syrian dialect, "Love is Fire", were performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2017.

Wafa has also worked as a presenter and lecturer, and has translated numerous children's books from Arabic to English, published by Mantra Lingua.

She has also worked as a translator for the BBC, and one of her documentaries won the Best Documentary award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.

Awards
She received the Isobelle Holmes Award from the American Folklore Society, the Golden Medal for the Mon Bem Prize, and the Smithsonian Magazine Book Award for Outstanding Children's Books in 2011.
