Walter Renner (psychologist)

Walter Renner (born 6 September 1956 in Innsbruck); † 18 October or 19 October 2018 in Vienna) was an Austrian psychologist and university lecturer.
Career
Renner graduated in 1974 in the humanist high school in Innsbruck. In 1982 he received his doctorate in the field of psychology with distinction in all rigors at the University of Innsbruck. He then took up a one-year position with Professor H. J. Eysenck at the University of London. He worked as a traffic psychologist for the Board of Trustees for Road Safety and completed psychotherapeutic training at AVM, where he also achieved the status of teaching therapist. He also achieved qualifications as a clinical psychologist and health psychologist.
He taught since the introduction of the psychology study at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt in 1999, in 2005 he completed his habilitation in psychology. He was the initiator of numerous FWF funding projects. From 2012 to 2013 he had the – temporary – Position of University Professor of Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology and Psychotherapy at Alpine Adriatic University. He then moved his residence to Vienna. He was appointed Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Pan-European University in Bratislava. He held this position until his death. He established a psychotherapeutic practice and devoted his research focus to neurofeedback.
As a university lecturer he worked at the Sigmund Freud Private University and the Universities of Salzburg, Innsbruck and Klagenfurt. At the Austrian Academy of Psychology (AAP), he taught clinical psychology and health psychology as part of the vocational training. As a cultural psychologist he worked beyond the borders of Austria, for example as a dissertation supervisor at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus. At the University of Applied Sciences Carinthia, he was appointed scientific course director for the master course Clinical and Health Psychology. He provided his expertise in several committees, such as the Psychologist Advisory Board and the Psychotherapy Advisory Board of the Austrian Ministry of Health. In 2018 Renner died after a short, serious illness at the age of 62 in a Vienna hospital.
