Gegè Cristofori, exuberant singer of light music for decades in economic crisis and popularity, receives an invitation from a 16-year-old South American billionaire, to return to Uruguay to Montevideo where about thirty years before he had performed with a certain success. Not having enough money to buy the plane flight, you board as a passenger on a Roll-on/roll-off ship of the Grimaldi Lines.

The promise to hold a concert, is the occasion of his life since in Italy it is completely unknown, and no image of him appears on the Internet. On the ship he meets Ruggero, a lonely cook who has not come down to the ground for four years being in a sentimental crisis after a painful love story with a minor. From now on, an instinctive dislike is triggered; to give him a disrespect closes Gegè in the cold room. This incident causes Gegè a sudden lowering of the untreated voice on board. Arrived in Montevideo Gegè, accompanied by Ruggero, he is visited in the hospital and the first diagnosis establishes a block of vocal cords. Feeling responsible for the event, Ruggero pretends with the organization of being him Gegè the singer.

The South American billionaire, in fact, is the producer of a television program that seeks people who have lost sight. Gegè Cristofori, in fact, thirty years before had had had a love night with a girl and, immediately returned to Italy, had never known that a daughter, Gilda Mandarino was born to him. Gilda, therefore, believes that Ruggero is his father, and when he, in love, tries to kiss her, goes into crisis fearing the incest. Meanwhile, Gegè Cristofori, once again admitted to the hospital, receives the news of being affected by a throat tumor. He therefore decides to recognize his daughter and agrees to participate in the television show where he sings in play back his most famous song that receives an immediate success.
