After 1960, the dispute began to provide domination, audit and security among the parties on the Aegean Sea. Greece established the first of the airport and other facilities that can also be used for military purposes in the island of Leros in 1952. After the Cyprus Harekâtı in response to this, Turkey founded the Aegean Army in Izmir. After mutual moves, the weaponing speed won.

International engagements distinguish these islands into three categories:

Turkish islands Gökçeada and Bozcaada with Limni and Semadirek. In conjunction with the Bosphorus of these "Boğaz" islands, the 4th article of Lozan Treaty on the Rejimine of the Bosphorus was purified from the soldier.
Greek islands named Limni, Gum, Sisam and Ikarya. These are the islands where Lozan Treaty is forbidden to establish a sea base and diarrhea in accordance with the 13th substance of Lozan Treaty but police and Jandarma force.
On Two Islands were taken from Italy with Paris Treaty and given to Greece. According to the 14th article of the Treaty, it can be forceed on these islands but until it will give the asay.

According to Greece, the conditions in the sequence of the antifications were changed in a rooted form (rebus sic stantibus), hence the restriction on the islands has been eliminated. In addition, the Treaty of the 1936 Montreux, instead of the Lozan Convention, which regulates the regime of the Bosphorus from the weapon, and the Throats were re-armed. 1923 Lozan Throat Convention ended completely. The islands, which are part of this system, for the re-armed of the Bosphorus, can also be armed. According to Turkey, there are 12 articles of Lozan Treaty, even if it is removed, in which Montreux can be scattered from the Bosphorus-front islands. This substance confirms the unarmed islands in 1914. Greece also claims that Turkey does not have a party to 1947 Paris Treaty, so the right and obligations are not given. Turkey also states that Paris Treaty has created a "objectif status", although it is not so party.
