Welsh Women's National Football Team

--- CONTENT ---
The Welsh national women’s football team represents Wales in international women’s football. The national team is subordinate to the Welsh Football Association and is coached by Jayne Ludlow. The Welsh selection could not qualify for a big tournament so far.

In qualifying for the 2011 World Cup, the team met Sweden, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Azerbaijan. Wales was the only team to lose a match against Azerbaijan, which, despite a victory in Belgium, reached only the penultimate group place.

In qualifying for the 2013 European Championships, the team met France, Scotland, Ireland and Israel. With three wins, one draw and 4 defeats, the third group place was reached and thus the playoffs of the group runners were missed.

In the FIFA rankings, Wales was able to reach rank 57 after an interim low in May 2006 through the three victories in the European Championship qualification on the 37th. Work up in August 2012 and improve further to 36th place in December 2013 due to victories in the 2013 World Cup qualification.

Olympic Games

For the 2012 Olympic Games, the four British football federations agree that an all-British team as an automatically qualified team should represent the host country (on behalf of the Olympic Committee of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). In the squad, however, unlike the men's team, which was led by the Welsh Ryan Giggs, no Welsh players were appointed. In the games of 2020 postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Welsh Sophie Ingle participated as a member of the British team, came in all four games, but lost with the team in the quarterfinals against Australia.

Algarve Cup
The national team first participated in the Algarve Cup in 2002, but always played in Group C against the weaker teams.
