West Asian Football Federation
History
The West Asian Football Federation is a division of the Asian Football Confederation that oversees the development of football in Western Asia. It was founded in 2001 by its founding members: Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.
In 2009, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Yemen joined the federation, followed by Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain in 2010. However, it's worth noting that Israel, Cyprus, as well as countries geographically included in Western Asia but located on the border with Europe (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey) are members of UEFA.
Iran, one of the founding members, left the federation in 2014/2015 due to deteriorating political relations with several Arab monarchies in the region. It subsequently joined the newly formed Central Asian Football Association (FACA).
